Sunday Night Shiur

The title of tonight's shiur is Walk Softly and Carry a Big Stick: How to survive Nisyonos.

Many of you may not have heard from or seen me a lot this week. That is because I am recuperating from walking pneumonia.

I want to thank all those who helped make last Motzai Shabbos' Tennis/Football event a success.

I want to thank R' Yechiel Spero for pitching in last week with a discussion and stories from the events that took place in Mumbai.

Sponsors are welcome for all events!

TYA Father vs Son Flag Football: Thanksgiving 11-27-08

We would like to thank Chaim Spero, Yanky Lefkowitz, Levi Friedman, Sam Pleeter, Ron Mitnick, Manny Topper and Mayer Kohen for showing up yesterday.

In an unusual fashion, the father's needed a third 'half' to get romped by their sons 18-2. This game featured some unique action including 10 interceptions by Yossi Kohen and an 80 yard bomb from Ezra Pleeter to Mordy Spero.

The father's showed some resilience early, but, as the game went on, it appeared that age caught up to them.

Thank you goes out to Avi Yudkowsky for being the scapegoat referee.

We are planning now for next year's edition which will hopefully feature more father's and sons so we can have another game.

TYFFL WK4 11-21-08

Week 4 brought some unexpected weather. As you can see from the pictures and video, there were gusts of snow which added to the excitement of the game! In the end, Parisers defeated Tov Pizza, Knish Shop defeated Wealcatch, and in a thrilling overtime game, Sunpride squeezed by Allied. In the Knish/Wealcatch game, Aron Lefkowitz caught an "80 yard" touchdown pass!

Next week no game.

Join us this Sunday Night for our Sunday Night Shiur! You never know what's for dinner!

Sodom, Salt and the Messiah - Tonight 7:30pm

TYFFL WK3

Following a league restructuring and a rainy Friday, we were able to get two games to take place. Parisers took the challenge of Allied Funding until the end when Allied Funding pulled out a 4-3 win. In a thriller, Tov Pizza and Knish Shop took it to overtime where a JT Gutman pass to Mordi Spero in the endzone ended the game.

Photos and video to be posted shortly...

TYFFL BOWL!!!!!!

I do not even know where to begin. There has never been, in Torah Youth's 4yr history a game like today's game. Tov Pizza, with their "owner" Ronnie Rosenbluth in their corner, took on Allied Funding, with Yitzi Shnidman in their corner. Throughout the season we saw about 10 - 12 overtime games, but none like this one. This was the first time that the overtime was longer than a half!

Tov Pizza took an early 2-0 lead after Chaim Finkelstein threw two easy touchdowns. Allied's defense brought them back in the game to make it 2-2. At that point, it was a back and forth battle until the very end.

Many people were on hand to watch and we would like to express our thank you to those who came to support these kids. Namely:

R' Melman
R' Fuchs
R' Flam
R' Rifkind
R' Berkowitz
R' Lefkowitz
Dave Finkelstein
Meir Kohen
Jack Jacobs
Yaakov Szajowitz
George Strum
Tali Strum

We would also like to thank our referees Yussi Openden, JT Gutman, and Aron Hertz.
A very special thank you to our camera crew and news team Avi Yudkowsky, Yosef Nachomowitz, and Mordi Spero. A special shout out to our photographers, Kramer & Drabkin (K&D Photography?).

For those of you waiting for pictures, have no fear, many were taken. It will take us time to post them but when they are up we are sure to let you know.

TYFFL 2007-2008 in the books.

Have a great Shabbos!

2nd Round TYFFL Playoffs

When it rains it pours.

On a day which was cloudy, nobody really knew when the rain would fall. As the games began it was drizzling. As the games entered their final minutes, the rain started to fall harder.

This week presented another incredible week of playoff football. In a very heated battle, National Photo and Tov traded scores for much of the game. With thirty seconds left Tov took the lead and did not look back.

In another very hard fought battle, with the favorite - Parisers - without their starting QB Yisroel Tzvi Gutman, brought in Avi Yudkowsky to be their substitute QB against Allied Funding.

This game went into a very wet overtime. The ground was wet, the ball was slippery, and there were plenty of wet fans on the sidelines. After a grueling back and forth, Allied was able to overcome the odds and join Tov Pizza in the TYFFL Bowl.

Next week - Tov Pizza vs Allied Funding - TYFFL Bowl III

TYFFL Playoff WK1 UPDATE

Today, Friday February 29th, 2008 was the first week of playoffs. With Parisers and Tov Pizza earning bye's it was up to four teams to stay alive.

In what turned out to be a no contest, National Photo defeated Knish Shop to secure a spot in WK2. The other game between Sunpride and Allied turned out to be an OT thriller.

With Avi Yudkowsky leading his team into the Red Zone ready to end the game, Rafael Gradon picked off a pass and ran it down the field for a game-winning touchdown!

Next Week it will be Allied vs Parisers & National Photo vs Tov Pizza. The winners of next week's games will go to the finals...

Stay Tuned!

Torah Youth Weekend Update

On Motzai Shabbos Feb 23, 27 boys came out to play. There was pizza, tennis and two football games. A special shout out to Chaim Finkelstein for playing in bare feet!

On Sunday eve, Rabbi Teichman spoke about the references in the Torah pertaining to mirrors and the reasons why houses have so many mirrors in them. He “reflected” on the idea that when one looks into a mirror, a window at a certain point in the day, or even someone else’s eyes, one sees a reflection of himself.

Stay Tuned for details about the Shabbaton May 30!!!

Next Tennis is scheduled for March 22nd (Motzai Shushan Purim).

TYFFL - We hope to get the first week of playoffs underway this Friday!!!

PLAYOFF BOUND

I am pleased to inform you that this past Friday was the last regular season game for the 07-08 TYFFL league. Two of the three games had particular significance. The one with least significance was Parisers vs Allied. Pariser's QB JT Gutman is on IR and the team lost without him to the tandem of Rafael Gradon and Rafi Strum.

The battle for last place and the bottom seed in the playoff bracket was between Sunpride and Knish Shop. The winner of the game would face the 3rd seed, which was determined in the other significant game. Avi Yudkowsky led his team to a 6-5 win in OT in a very exciting matchup.

In the game with most significance, Tov Pizza, led by Chaim Finkelstein, defeated National Photo in a 4-3 Overtime win. The winner, Tov, now joins Parisers with a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Next week is winter break, but the week after that, the playoffs begin! Allied will take on Sunpride and National Photo will take on the Knish Shop. We hope to see you there!

TYA SUPERBOWL PARTY IV

TYA Super Bowl Party was once again a HUGE success. The food and the game did not disappoint!
Furthermore, we had our own Halftime Show featuring Rabbi Teichman! Rabbi Teichman reminded the boys that although it is okay to enjoy and have fun, they should remember to act as mentsch and not as animals (as most teams are associated with animals).

TYA wishes to extend a thank you to the Elgamil family for allowing us to use their home for the party.

OTD Shiur Jan 20, 2008

The topic of shiur this past week was whether or not extra-terrestrial life existed on other planets. Despite the, what will now be known as a classic, Packers/Giants game, boys still came out to hear words of Torah from Rabbi Teichman. There will be a shiur this Sunday the 27th and the week after, Rabbi Teichman will be the half time show of the Super Bowl!
